Important Information Before Your Trip
Before you load up the car and head on off, here are a few things to know that will make your Glasgow recycling centre visit much smoother.
Information on Waste
It’s a great idea to sort your items by type before you arrive. This keeps the trip stress-free and helps make sure everything ends up in the right bin.
Only household waste is accepted at the main recycling centres, and staff will do a quick visual check to confirm this.
If you have commercial waste, you’ll need to go through the Weighbridge, where disposal charges apply.
National Re-Use Tool
Got bulky household items that are in great condition? Why not rehome them and give them a second lease of life.
Through the National Re-Use Tool, the council works with charities that collect these items for free and pass them on to people who need them.
It’s good for the community, good for the planet, and even saves you the heavy lifting and a trip to the recycling centre.
Learn more about the scheme here.
Proof of Glasgow Residency
The recycling centres are meant for Glasgow residents only.
Make sure to bring ID proof of your residency.
Vehicle Regulations
No matter the site, your vehicle must weigh under 3.5 tonnes.
Certain vans and larger vehicles have restrictions, which vary depending on the site. These details are covered in the section below, but it’s worth double-checking with the Council before you set off so you don’t get turned away.
If your van is allowed to gain access, it must first report to the Weighbridge upon entry (don’t use the main entry point!). After this, the staff will point you in the right direction.
Communal Recycling Sites
Did you know Glasgow has a huge network of over 700 communal recycling sites across our city? If you weren’t aware, you can explore the full map here.
These smaller sites are perfect if you only have a few items to drop off and want to save time.
When using them, please keep noise to a minimum and make sure everything goes inside the bins provided. Leaving items beside the bins counts as fly-tipping, a big no-no that can lead to hefty fines.
Opening Times of Recycling Centres in Glasgow
Now that we’ve covered the important bits, let’s take a look at the main recycling centre locations.
All household recycling centres are open Monday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm, with last entry at 5:45pm.
The recycling centre needs time off too! So, make sure to check if the site is open before making your journey on public holidays.
